1800 in France, someone found a feral 12-year-old boy. This is  who had apparently lived in the wild for most of his life. This Wild Boy of Aveyron, as he was called, was coached to speak for several years by a teacher. The coaching had little success, however, and the boy was able to learn to speak only two words: “milk” and “ohmyGod.” Indeed, he never developed into a fully functioning adult and was able to live only “a kind of vegetative life, sunk in inaccessible torpor, capable only of detached and half-articulate sounds, or silent from an absence of ideas” (Newton, 2002, p. 101).

Another instance was an appalling case of child abuse. A young Californian girl name Genie was raise alone in silence. It is either tether to a potty chair or confine to a cagelike crib until the age of 13. Poor Genie’s vocabulary at the time of discovery in 1970 consisted of two words: “stopit” and “nomore.” Many people were involve in Genie’s rehabilitation, including various scientists and foster parents. . A poignant example of one of her sentences as an adult was .

English speakers do not have English-speaking genes, and Hindi speakers do not have Hindi-speaking genes. We differ in our experiences-especially our early experiences-and this leads. This is  our minds to process the linguistic input that we hear in greatly different ways.
