.This essay focuses on create a matrix. This matrix will be a 2 X 8 table with the eight different parts of the data at the left vertically and with the two labeled studies across the top (horizontally listed).
Create a matrix shell and essay
This week you will create a matrix that will compare the various steps taken in the collection, organizing, analyzing and reporting of data.
You will also suggest how the findings may change depending upon the type of research design utilized.
2. The assignment will begin by selecting two dissertations or well documented studies. One will be a qualitative study and the other will be a quantitative research design. You should use at least one of the dissertations you selected in the beginning of this course, if possible.
3. Write a short summary of the two dissertations that you selected for this assignment.
4. Next, you will create a matrix shell that will allow you to carefully review the various data collection activities used for each of the selected research studies.
This matrix will be a 2 X 8 table with the eight different parts of the data at the left vertically and with the two labeled studies across the top (horizontally listed).
The vertical labels should be as follows:
Firstly, For a quantitative study it could be quasi-experimental, descriptive, inferential, etc.
For a qualitative study it could be label narrative, phenomenological, Grounded Theory, ethnography, case study, etc. Site and population
Secondly, What is the typical way that a site is located in order to do this type of study?
Where would they be associated? Would it be as a group or individually discuss?
How to access population/rapport
Thirdly, For example, contact the administration for permission?
Look for people on the Internet who have had needed experiences?
Contact a single person to collect archival data? Types of sampling use
In addition, How did the researcher select a site and then the individuals to complete the study? (e.g., purposeful sampling, stratify sample, random sample from a list).
Moreover, What was the form of the data collect? (i.e., interviews, focus groups, test results, observations, survey given, special artifacts collect, etc.).
Storing and securing the data for evaluation
Further, Took notes, used an interview protocol and transcribe it from recording, collect survey forms and aggregate into a spreadsheet, placed in file folders, on computer password protected, etc.?
Potential or existing data collection issues
Additionally, Any problems accessing materials and proving authenticity of account?
Any possible personal biases in the collection or analyzing of data?
What were the potential inconsistencies?
Analyzing the data
– Once the data was collected,
how was it analyzed to
allow discussion of the findings?
Was it placed it in tables, analyzed with special statistical tests, used coding to find the “essence” of what was presented orally from the interviews, etc.?
5. The matrix information for what the two other researchers have done will be found by reading through each study.
6. Complete an essay of 1250 words describing each of the cells of the matrix in detail.
That is, the assignment this week involves both a filled-in matrix and an essay describing the information provided in the matrix.
The words of the matrix do not count towards the required word amount for the essay. Focus the essay portion of your assignment on describing, evaluating, and comparing and contrasting how different types of research (one qualitative and one quantitative) affect the way that the Results are explain and Finding are describe.
Follow APA writing style guidelines for this assignment.
Clearly use headings to mark the specific sections in your paper. The title page and reference pages do not count towards the minimum word count. Include at least two (2) credible citations for your ideas and reflections.
