1. Introduction should include 4 things 1. A hook – something to get the reader interest to read you critical summary (facts) 2. Make sure you include the question you are answering 3. Have a thesis, a big takeaway. One sentence that tells the reader my answer to the question.
4. Include a one sentence summary of each of the articles in the intro 2. Topic and reader interest concluding sentences 1. Topic sentence 1. Usually the first sentence of any paragraph 2. Are important because they are the organization of your paper 3. Topic sentences are use to say what the paragraph is about and relate the paragraph back to the thesis 4. 1. When you summarize an article or the argument of reader interest another author, make sure you include Who, what, when, where, why, and how 1. Who is saying this 2. What are they saying (big takeaway from the article) 3. When are they focusing on (what years or what era) 4. Where are they focusing on (where is their study locate or where is their geographic focus)
6. How did the go about studying this (what data do they use, where did they get the data. How do they go about finding the data, what is the research method of the article)
\4. When summarizing articles, if you can show the connections between the reader interest articles. Better mark (Smith says A, in contract Smith, John says B) 5. Try to keep the language simple 6. Review the grammar slides to reduce grammar mistakes 7. Make sure your sources are scholarly sources 8. Have a title 9. Sentences can be a bit longer. Paragraphs can be up to one page.
