Using the Talent Goal Frame You can use the Talent Goal Frames to create a talent-targeted teaching and learning goal for curiosity (see Figure 4.0). Typically, begin in the center cell of the frame, filling in your required content standards and specific objectives. Next, select the talent aptitude you want to target—in this instance, curiosity— keeping in mind that the seven cross-domain aptitudes can become goals in any content area. You can keep track of the aptitudes you have targeted using the Talent Aptitude Unit Planners (available in the online appendix at www. resources.corwin.com/DevelopTalent). If your lesson module is already part of a problem-based study such as Healthy Community by Design, you will have an authentic context for the talent goal and performance of understanding. If not, the next step is to consider authentic applications of
and skills. Keep in mind that, in practice, the talent goal planning process is not always linear. Depending on your existing curriculum parameters, you might begin with any cell in the frame. Sample Curiosity Talent-Targeted Goal The curiosity Talent Goal Frame develops a goal from the STEM study, Healthy Community by Design. The corresponding student-directed goal explicitly defines curious behaviors and supports self-efficacy (see Table 4.2). four • Teach the Seven Aptitudes of Innovators 59 Curiosity Goal Demonstrate curiosity by surveying your community to draw conclusions about the recreational behavior of distinct populations. The Curiosity Performance of Understanding .
is an authentic task that provides both evidence of curiosity and mastery of the content standards through an independent application that demonstrates transfer of learning. Outdoor Recreation Survey Design and conduct a survey for a stratified random sample of your community in order to draw conclusions about which recreational activities to include in your Healthy Community by Design plan that would attract different groups. In what ways does this performance of understanding develop curiosity?. Clustering several aptitudes in a goal provides more opportunities for learners to discover and develop their aptitudes as innovators. To challenge students, write a c
