For new products or services to sell well they need to be unique or innovative in some way. This means that the design is probably not going to be a very standard one. The same goes for the scope. Creating something innovative sometimes requires a unique design that may not be as obvious early on. Opportunities to innovate can present themselves when you least expect them to.
Being resistant to change in any form prevents your team from taking advantage. These opportunities and the end product can suffer as result. It is even possible that the original scope just shoots too low such as when the request components of a machine. Could be arrange in a better way to optimize performance and allow for more features that the competition does not offer. Interaction with the customer can have downsides but as long as your change management system is strong. You can better manage an indecisive customer. The upside of interacting with the customer often is ensuring customer satisfaction and avoiding any misunderstandings in the requirements before it’s too late.
Part 2 I have never done any projects in a foreign country but I have been in other countries on port calls. Dubai is one that stands out to me as having strict customs that require adherence during a project. Prior to every port call, there are briefs we are require to attend where we learn how to not stand out too much and not offend people. The first custom I learn that is an absolute no-go is waving or pointing at someone with the left hand. In America, we think nothing of it or assume someone is left-hand when they do these things with the left but in the Middle East. It is very offensive.
