A news report follows a particular pattern in reporting as well as editing.

Every newspaper might have its own style of writing but a general format follow by all the newspapers at base levels is systematically divide into several parts.

Roughly speaking a news story structure follows 1-2-3-4 steps, that is:

Firstly, The lead. What is the most important ? How can you write it in the clearest way and make it interesting too?

Secondly,  Elaborate on the lead. Two, three, four or five paragraphs that explain support and amplify lead

Thirdly,  Key background and context of event, if needed; information that helps readers understands

In addition,  More elaboration , in descending order of importance.

The main impetus lies in the body of the report.

Once the introduction has been written, there are rules that must be apply to any following paragraphs.

Each following paragraph should be about 30 words long which will help to present information in shorter doses and maintain interest longer.

Each paragraph should aim to be as independent of the other paragraphs as far as possible (inverted pyramid structure).

The journalist must present information in descending order of importance.

To get a deeper understanding, a news story or report is divided into 5 parts namely;

Firstly, Headline – tells what the story is about

Secondly, Byline – shows who wrote the story

Thirdly, Lead – tells the most important facts (5 W’s)

Additionally, Body – contains more information and details

Moreover, Ending – gives something to think about

Common topics for news reports include war, government, politics, education, health, the environment, economy, business, fashion, and entertainment, as well as athletic events, quirky or unusual events.

Government proclamations, concerning royal ceremonies, laws, taxes, public health, and criminals, have been dubbed news since ancient times.

Technological and social developments, often driven by government communication and espionage networks, have increased the speed with which news can spread, as well as influence its content.

The genre of news as we know it today is closely associated with the newspaper.

A news report is similar to a news article.

It is the basic facts of a story that is currently happening or that just happen.

Writing a news report is easy if you report on the subject clearly, conduct good interviews, and write in a style that is clear, concise, and active.
