Further, it should have all of the following:  1) A clear thesis statement that states your argument (not the topic of the paper) in the first paragraph  2) Include specific references to course materials referenced, as well as references from at least two more academic sources. These must be from journal articles or scholarly books. You may quote other sources (like reports, news stories, etc) but these do not count toward this requirement.
