Blogging with Theory! For this blog, you need to apply theory or theories about why immigration. This occurs to make an argument, or have a clear “take away” point. This means that there is a thesis around which the blog is write. Use terminology (from Overview of the Course) and use concepts from the other readings in weeks 1-4 to hone in on some type(s) of immigrants to focus your blog. (Note: that “types of immigrants” does not mean ethnic groups or countries of origin). Synthesize ideas so that you are not listing definitions or summarizing readings. Your goal is not to be a teacher to a class. You need to inform a general audience
(i.e., people searching the web) so that they all “get something” out of your blog, but you should be writing so that the audience doesn’t feel like they are sitting in a classroom studying definitions. Cite articles from weeks 1-4. Your blog should demonstrate that you’ve synthesize and apply course materials. You should never claim ideas as your own if you got them from another source; to avoid this, cite the source when you quote .Copy words exactly and put them inside quotation marks) OR paraphrase (put someone else’s ideas into your own words). Put a parenthetical citation at the end of your sentence (AUTHOR LAST NAMES, YEAR) and then put a references list .The end of the blog with the full citation for the article (any citation style is okay). As each of you is an individual thinker, you can all come up with an original approach to the blog.
