Assignment: In “What is Enlightenment?” Immanuel Kant explains how individuals and societies can grow to be “enlighten.” Much of what Kant has to say can be apply to events taking place in the American colonies and it is likely that American thinkers such as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were greatly influence by Enlightenment think such as that present in Kant’s essay. In your paper, define Enlightenment in the way in which Kant uses the term and discuss how this idea fits with the US Declaration of Independence.
