Short Story (Fiction) Analysis. All essays are 3-5 pages in length and must be formatt to MLA standards. Please note that there is a research requirement (see next page), in which two sources must be utilize to inform your analysis in all options. Choose one of the short stories from this unit. (“GIRL” BY JAMAICA KINCAID). Find a critical source about the text that offers a unique analysis and specific interpretation of the story, or an element of it. In an essay of 3-5 pages, you will either a) expand on their analysis of the story, b) challenge their perspective, or c) both.  In order to do this successfully, you will need to have. A deep understanding of the story in order to view it through the lens of your critical source.

You’ll also need to demonstrate your understanding of the critical source by effectively summarizing it within your paper.

Here are some questions to generally guide your analysis: What is the critic saying? (You have to understand their point first!) .   Why do I disagree? How might another critical or contextual source help me to develop my own analysis of the story? .
